Rinnai was established in 1920, in Nagoya Japan. It started off with the manufacturing and selling of gas appliances that include gas ovens, gas water heaters, and gas tabletop stoves. Shortly after its establishment, from 1938 to 1946, it began to manufacture aircraft parts for the army, contributing to war efforts. Normal production of gas appliances resumed in 1946 after its head office was reconstructed. In 1973, Rinnai (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd was established.
In the following years, Rinnai has received several awards such as the Excellent Technology Prize from the Japan Gas Association, Energy Conservation Award from the Singapore Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Chairman Prize from the Energy Conservation Center, and Energy Efficiency Award from Alliance to Save Energy (ASE).
