Dishwasher FAQs
What is the difference between freestanding and built-in dishwashers?
A freestanding dishwasher has a finished exterior and can usually be placed under a countertop or beside cabinets. A built-in model is designed to fit into kitchen cabinetry, while a partially integrated model keeps its controls visible. Confirm the cabinet dimensions and door-panel requirements before choosing.
What dishwasher size and capacity should I choose?
Capacity is measured in place settings. The current xam max kitchen range includes slim 45cm models with nine place settings and larger models offering up to 17 place settings. Choose based on your available space, typical daily load and whether you regularly wash large pots or serving dishes.
Can a dishwasher clean oily pots and Malaysian cooking utensils?
Yes, provided the cookware is dishwasher-safe and loaded correctly. Remove large food scraps, place the dirty surfaces towards the water jets and select an intensive or high-temperature programme for heavily soiled cookware. Ensure large plates and pans do not block the rotating spray arms.
Must I rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher?
Pre-rinsing is normally unnecessary. Scrape off bones, rice, seeds and other large food particles before loading, as these can collect in the filter. Leaving some food residue also allows the detergent and wash programme to work as intended.
What detergent should I use?
Use only detergent made specifically for dishwashers, such as dishwasher tablets, powder or gel. Never use ordinary hand-dishwashing liquid because it can produce excessive foam and damage the appliance. Rinse aid can improve drying and reduce water marks, depending on the model.
Is dishwasher salt required in Malaysia?
Some dishwashers have a built-in water softener and salt indicator. Electrolux Malaysia states that dishwasher salt is generally unnecessary in Malaysia because local water is usually relatively soft. However, water conditions and model requirements can vary, so follow the specific product manual rather than adding salt automatically.
What installation preparation is required?
Prepare a suitable water inlet, drainage connection and accessible grounded power socket. Built-in models also require the correct cabinet opening, ventilation and door clearance. The appliance should sit level, and the inlet and drain hoses must not be twisted or compressed. Confirm these details with xam max kitchen before purchase.
Which items should not be placed in a dishwasher?
Avoid wooden utensils, non-heat-resistant plastics, delicate hand-painted items and cookware made from materials such as aluminium, copper or cast iron unless the manufacturer labels them dishwasher-safe. High temperatures and detergent may cause warping, cracking, fading or discolouration.
How should I maintain a dishwasher?
Inspect and clean the filter regularly to prevent food buildup, unpleasant smells and drainage problems. Also check that the spray-arm holes are clear and occasionally run the appliance’s cleaning programme according to its manual. Frequent users should generally inspect the filter at least monthly.
